What does 'Essential' mean in WU course titles?
Some WU classes have 'Essential' in their name, while others do not. Why?
The term 'essential' is given to specific Watershape University courses that are a required part of a certification.
We have a lot of classes here at WU. So in an effort to help our students identify the core curriculum needed for certifications, we have the 'essential' tier of classes. Each essential class is necessary to progress through a given certification track.
For instance, Construction 2111: Essential Pool Construction is not only its own certification (Certified Watershape Foreman®), it is also a prerequisite for many other classes along the Certified Watershape Professional® and International Watershape Institute® certification pathways.
Do ALL required courses have 'essential' in their titles?
No. There are other classes that are required for higher certifications with WU that do not have 'essential' in the title. These classes are more advanced, and they do not have the word 'essential' because the are not prerequisites for a follow-up class.
For instance, Engineering 2311: Essential Fluid Engineering is a prerequisite for Engineering 4311: Advanced Fluid Engineering. Students must pass 2311 before they can enroll in 4311.
When in doubt, check the certification pathways maps for each discipline offered by WU (construction, design, engineering, business, and service). If you are looking for what classes to take next, that's a great place to start. Or, you can contact our student liaison here.
