How to earn the Certified Watershape Renovator (CWR)
The CWR demonstrates a deep understanding of major renovations, how to approach them, quote them, and define the limits of what is possible with the customer's existing pool.
Why the CWR matters
Most concrete pool renovations are fairly straightforward: replace the plaster, and possibly the tile and coping too. If it's a big reach, it might also include replacing the entire pool deck, or the equipment set.
A major renovation, on the other hand, involves much more. A major renovation involves cutting into the concrete shell; maybe it's changing the structure or size of the vessel, adding a spa, re-shooting a failing concrete section of the pool structure, etc.. It could involve replacing the plumbing to the main drain, which requires cutting a large channel out of the shell to re-plumb. Or it could be shallowing the deep end to make more of the pool accessible to the owner.
In such major renovations, much more thought and engineering is involved, and that's what you will learn in this two-day (16 credit hour, 1.6 IACET CEU) course. Students will be assigned a fictional scenario with drawings, and with a pencil and eraser in hand, physically draw a new pool plan on top of what is existing.
While a typical renovation can be entirely subcontracted out to a plaster applicator (usually), a major renovation requires many more skilled trades and engineering.
How to earn the CWR Certification
The CWR, like other WU Trade Specialist Certifications is a two-step process:
- Take C2111: Essential Pool Construction, and pass the CWF exam to earn your CWF certification.
- Take C2711: Essential Major Renovations, and pass the in-class project to earn your CWRI.
Note, you can take C2711 and pass the in-class project prior to taking C2111 and passing the CWF exam. But you will not earn either certification until you earn your CWF. The CWF is a prerequisite for the CWR and all other trade certifications.
Once you take C2111 and pass the CWF exam, our system will recognize this, and automatically email you your CWF and CWR badges, as well as having them available for download on your student dashboard.
